Subtle Serendipity
Why I don’t believe in “ just a coincidence”
Lately, I’ve been thinking about the invisible threads that tug at our lives. The way a thought appears, uninvited but insistent, and then, suddenly, a person, a book, a conversation, a song, a number sequence, echoes that very thought back to us. We call these coincidences, as if the universe is just playing dice in the background. But I can’t help but feel there’s more to it than randomness.
For me, these moments have become quiet winks from the cosmos, from the universe, a good job buddy kind of nudge . A soft confirmation that I’m listening well. That I’m open-hearted enough to receive. I’ve come to believe that the so-called accidental happenings or the run-ins, the timing, the uncanny alignment, are actually sprinkles of divine implication. Tiny breadcrumbs that remind us we are not separate, not forgotten, not walking blind.
Sometimes, the most haunting kind of synchronicity is the one that reconnects what was once unresolved. A face you hadn’t seen in years, showing up on the very day you spoke their name aloud. A door creaking open again, not for reentry, but for recognition. For acknowledgement of the unspoken, the sharpening of what was left unsaid. The paths that cross again, almost cruelly tender in their timing, offering just enough to stir the heart but not enough to stay. You’re left in a puddle of uncertainty, doubt pressing at your ribs, wondering why the universe would orchestrate such poetry only to let it fade into the margins….
Often, the signs keep coming. The fleeting thought. The pit in your stomach. That same arrow, quiet but persistent, keeps pointing in one direction. And still you do nothing. Not out of apathy, but because life. Because timing doesn’t always yield to magic. Because bills, kids, obligations, healing. Because fear. Because we are human, and the tests are relentless. Life often feels like one long, layered exam, and the answers aren’t written anywhere except maybe deep in the heart, or in the spaces between coincidences.
It’s not magic, exactly. It’s a kind of intimacy with the self, and with the mystery. A co-creation with something vast and tender. Maybe even sacred.
So now, when a so-called coincidence brushes past me, I try not to dismiss it. I lean in. I let it speak. Even when I don’t know what to do with it.
Because maybe what we call coincidence is just the universe whispering back:
Yes, you’re on the right path. Keep going.

Alex
